Writing and Disability – Things one may need to give up #fibromyalgia

Hello everyone!

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll soon be hosting interviews with authors, PA’s, and editors who share the experience of navigating the world of literature while living with disabilities. Through these conversations, I aim to shed light on the diverse journeys within our author community.

Today, I want to discuss the challenge of letting go. Writing, for me, is an intrinsic part of who I am. Even on days filled with pain, I make it a point to pen down at least a paragraph in a work-in-progress.

However, there’s something I’ve had to relinquish – book cover design.

It’s a craft that takes a toll on the hands. The process involves extensive typing, constant button pressing, manipulating design elements, and it can be incredibly draining, especially with larger projects.

While I used to create book covers for others, I’ve decided to limit this skill to my personal use only. The last cover I worked on was for my book Whispering Glades and unfortunately, I lost the original files. Reconstructing it from scratch, particularly creating the full wrap, was excruciating.

The strain on my hands and wrists was unbearable. This experience made me realize that the physical pain outweighs the joy of designing. Though I might occasionally create covers for myself on better days, I’ve opted to step away from this aspect of my craft. Luckily, I have several book covers waiting for stories, which I hope to focus on soon.

For now, I find solace and joy in the fact that I can still pursue writing, despite the challenges. It remains a passion that keeps me going.
