Hotel Review: Valley Harvest Inn, Soledad, Ca

Hotel Name: Valley Harvest Inn

Hotel Location: 1155 Front St, Soledad, CA 93960

Stars: 5

This is a nice hotel and when we drove up at night, we didn’t know about a pool….like I only found out about it when I was looking for the address to blog about it. I asked the girl for a king room and she started getting us a room and then said that two queen beds would be cheaper! So we got two queen beds.

A nice clean room, good location – close to the highway and the entrance to get back on 101 is close. It has breakfast, a restaurant next door and a big plaza that has a lot of stores and fast food. There’s also Denny’s.

We received good sleep and my son loved running around the room. This hotel has more tv channels, one of them had a baby show -babyfirst which my son found really funny. The hotels in Orange county didn’t have many options for channels. Ironic? lol 😉

Hotel Review: Ayres Hotel Costa Mesa/Newport Beach, California

Hotel Name: Ayres Hotel Costa Mesa/Newport Beach

Hotel location: 325 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626

Stars: 5 stars

Okay, this hotel was very pretty and usually costs about $200 for a room with two queen beds. We got a king room with a king bed and a couch. The room cost about $150. The bed was comfortable and had gold sheets- well the cover. My son had a lot of room to run around. The television was high enough for him not to able to touch and there was a restaurant inside the hotel.

We didn’t try the restaurant because it was expensive and they didn’t have food that my son could eat. When I asked about pasta, they said that they could make him just the pasta without anything for $6. Really? He’s a toddler, he barely eats through his plate and here there was just pasta without anything for $6. Yeah, not happening.

While exploring the room, my son found an m&m! An old one. I wasn’t happy and called the front desk that the cleaning crew didn’t clean very well. I told them that my son found it and it couldn’t have been us because he doesn’t eat chocolate and I don’t have chocolate around him so it couldn’t have been ours. They apologized and said they can send in the crew but by then we were finally resting and I declined. When we were checking out, I asked for a further discount because of the m&m. Considering that I didn’t know what would have happened if my son did consume it, I felt that a discount was in order. We received 20% off the room. Very good.

I have to say that it’s been an adventure this vacation with hotels. It was nice to see a hotel that treated us well. Thank you to the two managers.

The hotel also had a pool and a Jacuzzi. We enjoyed some time in the water, although the water was cold. My son didn’t complain. We used his floaty. ^_^

I told the managers that in the future, we will be using their hotel.

So, I was in a good mood, getting to the hotel. Before we got to the hotel, we stopped to get gas, like 5 exits before this one and I won $3 at the gas station. Then, it got bad.

We got into a car accident on Bear and Bristol. We were turning onto Bristol from Bear on our green and someone rammed into us. I was mad but on euphoria because my son was okay. I called the police and they didn’t come because no one was injured. Only later, I started to have back pain. So my vacation was ruined! Grrr.

Anyway. We came to the hotel and got a room. We didn’t have a reservation. We asked for a room with two queen beds and received a room with full beds. Okay. Was fine with that. Then because of the accident we had to get two more nights, we received one more and that’s where it’s 3 stars. We needed a third night and asked the reception to give us one more night.

Honestly – rude. They said that they would know in the morning if there was a room available. We told them that according to booking.com, there were many rooms available. They said to order online then. We asked why should we do it online when we were right in front of them. After that we went in circles on the subject. They even looked at my mom like she was stupid. That’s the part that we didn’t like. We left the reception, went to our room and called the hotel down the street. They didn’t tell us that we had to check in the morning about a room and so we switched hotels.

This is a cheaper hotel then the one we went to next, but it was a good location that was near my friend’s house and close to the airport for those why fly. Our next hotel was more expensive, although we received a good deal for that night.

I also believe that the cleaning crew tried cleaning our room before we checked out. Annoying.

Road review: Chumash Highway, Ca

Road name: Chumash Highway

Location: California – about 32 miles long

No stars.

Hehe. Can’t really rate it. The highway is one lane for both sides and occasionally two. We traveled about 28 miles on it (I think). It’s a gorgeous road with lots of beautiful scenes. It can get twisty and not for those who are afraid to look down at the trees from the road. Some deep views.

Next time, however, we’ll go directly to 101 because it’s a long road and with a baby can feel longer lol

Below is a shot I was able to get while mom drove.

A nice memory.

Casino Review: Chumash Casino Resort, Santa Ynez, Ca

Casino Name: Chumash Casino Resort

Casino Location: 3400 CA-246, Santa Ynez, CA 93460

Stars: 4 stars

I have been several times to this casino and I play in the non-smoking section. They have been really accommodating. I went with my mom, sister, niece, and my son. They allowed us to bring in my son and niece into the food court (underage) which was great because we could check on them in between playing; although they weren’t alone. They were either with me or my sister.

At the food court, we ordered chow mein. My son loved it. He ate it up fast. Hehe. I got my niece sushi and she was extremely happy about it. For me, I got pizza. It was really good pizza. After my sister walked around the play area, she returned and I went to join Mom in the non-smoking section. I started with $20, lost to $2 and then won up to $55 so I ended up winning $35. Woot woot. I stopped there. Then, I watched mom finish her game and we left.

The reason I say it’s 4 stars is because the slot machines lie. Well, in other words, there’s no more machines that 1 cent. They say 1 cent, but the lowest that one can bet on those is 30 cents. So, long ago, one could play on $20 for a much longer time than now. It’s probably a good thing because then one spends less time at the casino. Just saying.

I wonder what will happen on my next trip. 😉

Hotel Review: #WilkiesInn – Clarion Collection (a warning to #mothers)

Hotel Name: Wilkies Inn – Clarion Collection

Hotel Location: Pacific Grove, California

Hotel Address1038 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove, CA 93950, United States of America

Rating: Dragon paws are only for books. This hotel only gets 1/5 stars and that’s only because of it’s location. Otherwise, it gets a 0.

So over the past week, I had been on vacation. My first vacation with my son! I showed him the ocean. I showed him the aquarium. I showed him lots of deer and bonfires. We listened to live music and enjoyed ourselves, except for the last night of vacation.

Here’s what happened:

We made the reservation for this inn through Booking.com. When we came to the inn and entered our room, we were highly disappointed.

This is what I saw when I made the reservation.

queen room

When we came into the room, we saw a queen bed and a couch bed – a couch bed! We went back to the front desk, thinking that they gave us the wrong room. The girl said that Booking.com has it wrong and that they don’t have a room like that and all of the rooms are alike. We said that okay, a queen room with a queen bed, but where is a twin bed? She said that it was the couch bed. We told her that there’s a difference between the twin bed with a regular mattress and a couch. She said that the couch is a twin bed. My mother and I decided to stay there… well frankly we had no choice BUT to stay. We needed to book a new room and all the hotels next door were full. We were to sleep there only anyway. During the day we had made lots of plans. We told her that we would let Booking.com know about the mess up. We asked about discount and received none. We should have checked their website…that’s what the girl said.

Okay, that can be forgiven, but the girl- the manager can’t be. We stayed there two nights and every time we entered the office, she was there. Did she take a break? It was more than 48 hours and she was there at midnight, at 8am during breakfast, at noon when we would leave the hotel, and at night when would return. Our key kept deactivating because we kept it by an iPhone.

I think that she needs a vacation. When we brought up the topic of the room or of anything by that matter, she didn’t have the proper attitude. She was ready to argue and defend and not apologize or explain. I think she needs to take courses on hospitality. Totally rude.

It got worse the second night. At about 10:30pm, our room gets a call. I figure that someone complained about the TV. I don’t have a TV at home so I was enjoying watching Psych and Tom and Jerry while my son was playing next to me with his toys. No, the phone call wasn’t about the TV. It was about my baby. You see –

Background: I have a son. He will be 6 months next week. He’s a baby.

Because we returned late from Asilomar Camping Grounds, his bath wasn’t at 9pm but at 10pm. After I gave him his nightly bath, I fed him and then played with him. Bath took about ten minutes, feeding took about 10 minutes and so he was maybe playing with me for ten minutes before her phone call.

First of all, my son wasn’t crying. Second of all, he was laughing and agooing and singing. He was happy and it wasn’t constant noise from him, as I said, maybe about ten minutes. He was HAPPY. That’s what I told her over the phone. She didn’t listen and asked to keep down the noise from my baby and get this – she didn’t say anything the first night because she let it slide that he’s a baby.

Since, she wasn’t listening, I told her that I’m putting him to bed. She said okay and we hung up. I was fuming by that point. So at the hotel, it’s okay to have dogs. It’s okay to watch TV at all hours. It’s okay to yell at 6:00 AM about shower not working next door but it’s not okay for a baby to cry or be happy????

He wasn’t loud either. Not louder than the TV anyway. I actually don’t think that neighbors complained, I think it was her. She wasn’t happy that we weren’t happy with the room, that we asked for discount, that we asked for more shampoo. She didn’t want to be friendly. Of course, That’s only my opinion but that’s how it felt. Again, my son was not louder than the TV and the TV was loud.

I can sooth my son when he’s crying and I always do it. It hurts my heart when he cries and is not happy, but I’m not going to stop him from being happy. (if you got this point, I’m allowing you to curse since I’m cursing right now.)

I felt disgusted. After I put him down to bed and next to my mom, I went to take a shower to calm down. It didn’t help. I watched an entire episode of Psych. It didn’t help. I kept turning and turning. It was impossible to sleep. Babies will be babies and complaining about baby noises is not forgivable!!!!! I mean seriously. When people take vacations, they take vacations with family members, friends, and pets. So, people need to be prepared for some level noise and baby noise for forgivable. I MEAN SERIOUSLY, IT WASN’T MORE THAN ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND HE WASN’T AS LOUD AS THE TV.

During the night, I fed him a couple of times and by morning, I was so exhausted that all I wanted to do was go home and sleep. But, we stayed and went to the beach, trying to let go of all the built up bad energy. I MAY ADD THAT MY SON DIDN’T WAIL OR ANYTHING IN THE NIGHT. THE MOTORCYCLE AT 4AM WOKE EVERYONE UP, BUT MY SON DIDN’T WAKE ANYBODY UP.

When we went to turn in our key to the room, she was there again and get this, was trying really hard to stay on the phone. IT WAS THAT OBVIOUS. It was funny and when she understood that we weren’t going away, she hung up. There was a man getting breakfast and when he heard of what we were talking to her about, he disappeared so fast, it was funny. She tried telling us that she didn’t know that the baby was happy. She thought that he was making noise. I told her that, I told her over the phone last night that he WAS HAPPY. She clearly didn’t listen.

It’s like that I, his mother, was a bad mother. Just letting him make noise and ignoring him. Yeah….I’m INSULTED. I would never ignore by boy. I asked if she had kids and she said NO. When she does have children, I hope that she gets to learn a lesson or two.

I feel DISGUSTED even now.

Again, she ignored the complains the first night telling them that he’s a baby, she could ignore it the second night or be more understanding and actually listen when I said that he was happy and the people who complained know nothing about babies. Again, maybe it was all her.

Anyway, there’s probably more to this story that I’m forgetting but please MOTHERS don’t stay at this Inn. It was the worst hotel experience and I have stayed in hotels all over the country.

The manager needs to take courses. She needs to listen. She needs to be polite. Or…she needs to find a new job.
