Book Review: A Chance of Rain (Cera Raine Series Book 1)

Book Title: A Chance of Rain IMG_5102

Book Author: Sonnet O’Dell

Rating: 5 Dragon Paws 5-paws

I know Sonnet from Facebook. She’s an author and a jewelry maker. I actually have a couple of pieces. When I ordered her jewelry, I also ordered a signed copy of this book and I have to tell you guys – I Loved it!

Great characters. Great interactions. Great motivations. I was sooo rooting for Cera and for her ‘Master’ to get to the bottom of the case. I was actually sitting on my fingers, thinking how the story is going to go. Rare for me. It is Sonnet’s one of her first books and I’m glad that I chose this one. Sonnet has talent. I’m telling. I so want to read book and continue reading about Cera. I really want to know her fate and how her case is going to go.

For 18+ – language and sex.

Book Review: Listen

Book Title: Listen

Book Author: Robin Rance

Rating: 5 Dragon Paws 5-paws

This is a very well written novel by Robin Ranice. It is also a very powerful romance story that has romance, sadness, memories, loss, and thoughts about life and death.

The book for the first half of the story is from Tansy’s point of view and later on changes to Boss man. In the last chapters, it goes back and forth. When it starts from Boss man, be ready to go down memory lane because some events reoccur because it is told from his perspective. We get to learn why he reacted to Tansy the way he did (which is very important).

Tansy and boss man felt very real to me and at times, I felt their tears and emotions.

This story is for those who had some loss and who are okay with reading sad stories that have happy endings.

Book Review: The Surrogate: A Tale of Two Loves #DNF

Book Title: The Surrogate: A Tale of Two Loves rebekah book

Book Author: Rebekah Dodson

Rating: N/A

SPOILER ALERT

Surrogate is a well written book with characters that feel real and have fun and entertaining dialogue.

There were some things that led me to not finish the book. I even looked at the last pages of the book to motivate me and they didn’t help. They just made me mad is all.

The main character is a 38 year old psychologist whose son is in college. She chose to never marry and pushed away the man of her dreams to the brink were he married someone else… all the while sticking close to her and help her raise her son. What’s more he made sure to meet with out heroine in secret from his wife. She would show up and leave before his wife would…there would be no sex or anything. Just spending time together.

After having a close call with the man of her dreams, she gets out to an Irish bar and meets a nice man.  Her friend’s idea. It wasn’t because her life is boring as the blurb on amazon says, it’s to finally forget the man that she cannot have. I know right? Loved that part. However, the man of her dreams have other ideas and gets mad when she has a night of passion. Not because he cares but because he wants her to be his surrogate… the best part is that his wife doesn’t even he’s looking for a surrogate! I mean seriously. That’s when his true colors get through and I stopped reading at the end of chapter 7 because I saw that she was going to let herself be abused. I was in her case, I would have gone to the police…. police out of town or anything to not become a surrogate. Sean sounded like he could handle himself unlike her past men.

At 38 is very hard to have children…for the mother… lots of health issues which the asshole didn’t think through.

In the last pages of the book, something happens that Pissed me off as hell.

I don’t think a woman of her intelligence would have gone through all that and for a man, especially how she thought about men for most of her life. That is why I stopped reading. I got this book on Valentine’s Day because I heard it was free and thought it would be a happy one…. nope. It’s not worth more of my time and this review helped me get it out of my system. I don’t want to read about blackmail and her thinking. Not a good read. I would not classify that this book is in the romance genre.

However, just because I couldn’t finish the book, doesn’t mean others won’t. If you like to read about Irish men, you may like it.

Book Review: Royally Bitten (Blood Alliance Series Book 2)

Book Title: Royally Bitten (Blood Alliance Series Book 2) cb2

Book Author: Lexi C. Foss

Rating: 5 Dragon Paws 5-paws

This book has also been making me go back-and-forth. It is well written and I’m happy that I read it. My favorite part was when Jace, Darius, and Kylan got together and started playing their vampire game of who’s the villan and who’s the good guy. Loved it. I was laughing.

This story is between Kylan and Rae, a girl who wanted a chance at immortality and instead got sent into Kylan’s harem. There are rumors around him being nuts which puts Rae into an interesting position. Who is the real Kylan? Rae is different from Juliet. She had access to a television, was able to built a secret friendship with two humans, and is very defiant. All in all, a perfect lamb for Kylan.

This is a book for readers who don’t mind reading sexual scenes and love to read about different realities and or futures. It’s a great continuation to book 1. There will be a book 3 that will open up the world of lycans. Exciting.

Book Review: Chastely Bitten (Blood Alliance Series Book 1)

Book Title: Chastely Bitten (Blood Alliance Series Book 1) cb

Book Author: Lexi C. Foss

Rating: 5 Dragon Paws 5-paws

This book has been making me go back-and-forth. At times, I had to skip the sexual scenes (for readers 18 and over) and at others, the author made me question our reality. Yes, this is paranormal fiction, but also in a way, how it’s written, its written very well were I could see it happening. Although, I would really love it if our future didn’t reveal these type of hidden societies.

The ideas of all powerful vampires and treating humans like cattle is interesting. For a long time, Juliet didn’t know how to be herself because she didn’t have herself. She was a shell, bred and taught to act a certain way in order to survive. At one point of the book, I made a decision to not read the second book,  but the ending made me want to do it. I want to read what else Lexi has in store for her readers.

This is a book for readers who don’t mind reading sexual scenes and love to read about different realities and or futures.

Book Review: The Heath Cousins and the Moonstone Cave

Book Title: The Heath Cousins and the Moonstone Cave moon

Book Author: Eileen Hobbs

Rating: 5 Dragon Paws 5-paws

This a light middle grade fiction novel that shows growth in the children characters and them learning something on their magical adventure. It was great to see a group of cousins learning to work together. ^_^ I loved the creatures that appeared and am interested in reading book 2. It’s a quick read and I recommend it to kids. Good for all ages.  Very cute story.

Look at that gorgeous cover! Very beautiful.

If you’re looking for a new book boyfriend, read this book. Saya is great!

This is about a girl named Abra, who after loosing her mother, goes in search of her father who sent her a letter. Along the way, she meets some interesting characters like Saya, a smuggler. Again, book boyfriend. This is a fast read, at times sad, but a great story; very well written. If I keep going, I may let out some spoilers so I rather not.

I recommend this book to readers who like reading romance and adventure. It’s also for those who like big cats. 😉  It’s for 18+ readers.

Talking with strangers about books at My Facebook Group @AngelinaKernerFiction

So, I ask my Lyft drivers (so far), planning to ask more, this question – “What was the last book that you read?”

So far, I have received 4 answers… okay 3. One of the Lyft drivers didn’t speak English –

  1. “I think it was about this guy who knew Castro. It was years ago.”
  2. “Sabertooth and lots of books on bee keeping. I’ve been a bee keeper for 7 years.”
  3. “I don’t read…. the Bible. Books make my sleepy.”

Based on my short conversations, I ask you a question at the end- like “Was there a book that made you sleepy?”
